The Hidden Ones Hidden Chest Locations
Chest hunting in The Hidden Ones is mostly a camera problem. Almost every spawn is tucked behind geometry, under a beam, or behind a crate that has to be broken before the gap exists. This page lists the documented locations region by region, with the exact trigger conditions that decide whether a chest appears at all.

Longhu Mountain town
Three chests sit in the starting town area, and two of them are above or below eye level. The town rewards a slow first lap rather than a direct run to the quest marker.
| Chest | Location | Trigger note |
|---|---|---|
| Broken stele | Behind the inn, in the back courtyard | Walk behind the stele; the chest is concealed by the fallen stone |
| Alchemy room beam | Second-floor beam of the alchemy room | Jump onto the beam platform; the chest sits along the woodwork, not on the floor |
| Gate-step cave | In the misty stone cave under the gate steps | Proximity trigger: standing too close before the prompt registers can skip the spawn |
The gate-step cave is the one that catches people. Because it is a proximity trigger, walking right up to the cave mouth can skip the spawn entirely. Approach slowly, watch for the prompt, and step back if nothing appears rather than pressing yourself into the wall.
The alchemy room chest is easy to clear on the way past and easy to forget on the way back. The beam sits above the normal camera height, so tilt up when you enter the room; if you only scan the floor, the chest reads as missing.
Tianshi Mansion
The mansion holds three chests, and one of them is not available until a side quest is finished. The other two are straightforward if you check behind objects instead of walking through the middle of each room.
- Behind the incense burner in the main hall. Walk around the burner rather than past it; the chest is hidden in the gap between the burner and the wall.
- Old ginkgo haystack in the rear courtyard. The chest is buried in the hay at the base of the tree.
- Cliff railing gap on the viewing platform. This one is locked behind the side quest “The Heavenly Master's Request”; without the quest state the gap does not open.
If the railing gap refuses to open, check the quest log before assuming the chest is bugged. This is the only quest-gated chest in the list, and it is the most common reason a full clear ends one short.
The incense burner and the ginkgo haystack are close enough to collect in one pass through the mansion. Do the main hall first, then walk straight back to the rear courtyard, and leave the cliff platform for last so the quest check happens once rather than twice.
Biyou Village outpost
Biyou Village has four spawns and the worst miss rate in the game, because one of them requires you to break a crate in a different building before the crawlspace exists. Charging straight to the boss room makes that chest unavailable for the run.
| Chest | Location | Trigger note |
|---|---|---|
| Old banyan hollow | Back of the old banyan trunk at the village entrance | Circle the trunk; the hollow faces away from the approach path |
| Outer wall gap | Broken wall on the outside of Ma Xianhong's grounds | Follow the outer wall instead of the main road |
| Bed board | Innermost room of the wrecked house | Crouch to squeeze through the gap, then check under the broken bed board |
| Right-side house crawlspace | Right-hand house, upper crawlspace | Break the outer wooden crate first to trigger the hidden door; skip it and the run is wasted |
The right-side house crawlspace does not open on its own. Smash the wooden crate on the outside of the building, then enter. If you reach the boss room without doing this, you cannot come back for it in the same run.
The bed-board chest adds a second movement requirement: crouch. Players who only walk and sprint through the wrecked house never see the gap, and the chest reads as absent rather than hidden.
The outer wall gap is the spawn that rewards leaving the road. If you follow the main path straight to the boss, you pass it without ever seeing the break in the wall; walk the outside perimeter before entering the village proper.
Herb valley and the Dawupa waterfall
Two spawns here are conditional, and both conditions are easy to miss because they are environmental rather than spatial.
The herb valley chest appears in a rock crevice on the back-hill gathering route, but only while it is raining. If the weather is clear, the crevice is empty and no amount of camera work will help. Check the sky before you commit to the detour.
The Dawupa Forest chest is behind the waterfall. The sequence is fixed: break the dead wood blocking the path first, then wait for the water level to drop. When the water falls, the cave opens for about 12 seconds. Enter immediately; if the window closes, the chest is gone for that run.
The window is short enough that the approach matters. Clear the dead wood before you pull the camera back, and do not stop to fight anything on the way in; the twelve seconds are for walking through and opening the chest, not for clearing trash.
Luotian Dajiao and modern Beijing
The last three spawns are split between a PvE venue and the modern-city zone. Both reward camera control more than combat.
- Luotian Dajiao, top-west flagpole. Go to the top of the spectator stands, northwest corner, behind the flagpole. The chest needs you to raise the camera angle; at the default pitch it sits outside the frame.
- Modern Beijing, subway stair alcove. At the corner of the descending subway stairs, there is a small alcove that is invisible from the main concourse.
- Modern Beijing, under-bridge billboard. Check behind the billboard beneath the overpass, not in front of it.
Luotian Dajiao is a weekly trial, so the flagpole chest is worth collecting on a run you are already doing. See the dungeon guide for the schedule and the consecutive-defense format.
Both Beijing spawns sit near fast-travel routes, so they are worth grabbing while the camera is already pointed at the city. Neither needs a fight, and neither is behind a quest.
A search routine that finds them faster
Most missed chests are not hidden by distance; they are hidden by the camera. A short, repeatable routine beats memorizing coordinates.
Stop at the zone entrance and rotate the camera a full 360 degrees. Look for abnormal glints and for geometry that has no obvious purpose.
Hug the perimeter at walking speed. Chests behind steles, haystacks, beams and railing gaps are all placed against walls.
Break every wooden crate and pull every lever you passed. A crate is not scenery here; it is the trigger for a crawlspace or a hidden door.
Two rules stand out. If a chest does not appear, check the condition before the location: rain, quest state, crate order and proximity triggers account for most of the misses. And if a run has a boss gate, collect the outpost chests before entering, because several of them cannot be reached afterward.
Give each zone one deliberate search pass before you start combat. Once enemies are engaged, the camera pulls toward the fight and the ground-level detail you were looking for disappears behind effects. The two conditions that cannot be judged at a glance are the proximity trigger and the crate order, which is exactly why those two spawns deserve a slower approach.
Treat a failed spawn as information. If a chest refuses to appear, note the weather, the quest state and whether the nearby crate was already broken; that note is what turns the second visit into a one-minute pickup instead of another full lap.
Chest hunting overlaps with the hidden scenes on the hidden quests page, and the Biyou Village spawns are best collected on a run where you already know the paper-doll skip and furnace route. For movement and camera settings that make narrow gaps easier to spot, see the performance guide.
